Plasma membrane proteins play a crucial role during fruit storage. For example, the cell wall provides initial protection to the stored fruits/vegetables from the outer harsh environment. Additionally, most of the cell wall biosynthesis genes reside in the plasma membrane such as cellulose synthase family genes. These proteins are responsible for defining the fate of cell wall biosynthesis.
