Hi, I am doing an investigation into air fuel ratio for a single cylinder engine for better performance and emissions, which translates into use of turbomachinery to achieve this. Can volumetric efficiency be the baseline and criteria for performance increase? I have also yet to encounter any publications that documented emissions analysis in computational fluid dynamics, and catalytic converter design.
Yes Volumetric efficiency is the baseline criteria also care should be taken regarding the equivalence ratio. As more and more volume of air is injected means the air fuel ratio will change. Accordingly one need to change the mass of fuel injection to maintain constant equivalence ratio, if not you can't explain the results which were effect by change in equivalence ratio also not alone by turbocharging.... take care of this...
After doing some research, I have gathered some knowledge on this. "The equivalence ratio is just the actual air-to-fuel ratio divided by the theoretical. If the ratio is below one, there is too little air (i.e. too much fuel). If it above one, there is too much air (not enough fuel)." Incomplete combustion should happen more at lower equivalence ratios?
Am i right to say that ,Increasing the fuel flow with an increase in air flow velocity will create more performance however equivalence ratio must be preserved to justify?

Er=[ Stoichiometric A / f ] / [Actual A / f ] . More the No more rich the mix. It is = 1 if Nr = Dr.
If Er = 14:1 / 7:1, Then = 2, Richer Than chemically correct mix by twice.If it above one, there is too much fuel, if the ratio is below one, there is too much air.
Keeping this in mind expt should be conducted.
