Space weapons are already being built and improved since the plan to create a space missile defense shield with the use of satellites specially created for this purpose. Technological advances in this field are already underway and will continue for many years to come. The key issue is that the constructed and improved specific solutions of space weapons, like any other weapon, are not used against people, but can be used in the future to neutralize threats emerging from space. For example, space weapons of the type equipped with nuclear charges, ballistic space rockets, orbital space stations or, in the future, space stations located on the Moon could protect the Earth from large meteorites and comets whose flight trajectories would collide with the trajectory of our planet around the Sun . If space weapons could destroy large space objects, meteorites or comets that threaten the planet, it would be a positive use of this type of weapon.

It's a gentle way of thinking about these weapons and their purposes. However, I don't think the purpose of these weapons is noble, have you read the reports from the links?

I think we transformed the old Cold War, even colder, now in space.

Actually, they are dangerous toys, wasting time, efforts, and money . Instead these efforts, time and money can be used in health sector to fight the diseases , in economic to fight the poverty and in peace against the wars .

If instead , researches and efforts be directed toward upgrading the quality of life , for human beings in all over the world, then the world will be in peace. At that condition, travel to stars could be a hubby for peoples. Although it is strange, but it is possible. All researchers try to reduce or omit the weapons related works. Governments try to base their work as a servant for the people’s. The tax payers should restrict their tax to be served for human well beings but not their death via weapons. … With hope to have a weapon free world.

The world is based on profit and greed! Humans are very corruptible! And many researchers are corruptible humans and appreciate their vanities, profit and greed.

Sad but true. How many are able to say no? Not accepting unreasonably high subsidies and financial support for weapons research?
