I need an instrument for real time monitoring of radon gas emission from Soil, which instrument is good for required purpose? I am already using SARAD RTM 2200 but facing problem of irregular peaks in data ( because of condensation in radon chamber). Read about RAD 7 , Alpha guard but dont know they also having problem of Condensation or not.....
I wana purchase a proper system along with transmission system for 24 hours monitoring of radon gas emission from soil. Please help in this regard ,..... need suggestion and guidance .............

I am not really a radon man, but as far as I know RAD-7 is quite versatile and when equipped with an additional DRYSTICK unit which removes water from the emanating gas it can produce good quality data.

Aftab - Are you going to be leaving the unit outside, protected, and running it with battery? Do you want the data transmission continuous from this remote location?
@ john...yes i wana use instrument in outside ,protected in a 3x3 feet shelter box , running with solar system for power and data transmission continuous from remote location.
For continuous monitoring, all instruments have one or the other Problem. We used Alpha-logger probes; Rad 7 and Alpha Guard consecutively. Condensation problem was maximum in alpha logger probes.

Radan monitoring system includes three sections, (1) gas collecting, (2) gas drying (dehydration) and (3) gas measuring. The important thing for the first section is an appropriate chamber with enough gas to be available. The space for the chamber is according to the local gas emission rate. The important thing for the second section is dry the gas and the important thing for the last section is the good working instrument. The drying section is the most important for the final value due to gas's dissolving in water and the humidity of the soil gas if the instrument is OK in a permanent station . You need to use desiccant to make the gas dehydrated before it goes into the measuring section. According to my experiences, the second section is key for the last value with fewer irregular peaks.

I currently use the RAD 7 for discrete Radon measures, or for continuous measures, but for short periods (days-weeks). In high humidity (eg, fumaroles) I use a special filter of drierite much bigger (about ten times) than those normally supplied to the instrument.
For long-term (months-years) continuous monitoring of radon I use Barasol BCM2 probes produced by a French company (Algade). If the station is in fumaroles, I apply a double filter to the probe.

Dear John, I have published a few articles on radon continuous and discrete measurements acquired at Etna volcano. Please, find attached them here.
We used Barasol Probes made by Algade as recommended by Marco Neri for almost 10 years. It records Radon with Met Parameters for applying corrections for Humidity effect. I will not recommend CR-39 for continuous monitoring over months/years.
Dear Aftab, the suggestions of Dr. Virk and Neri are well suited for your purpose. As you can not take instantaneous results from CR-39, required for your Earthquake studies. RAD-7 is best for your study provided you continuously change silica gel for humidity control. I have no experience of using Barasol probes but Dr. Virk is an experienced researcher in the field, so it will work for your purpose.

I must note that the radon anomaly studying as possible earthquake precursor is perspective and in many cases effective method. At the same time we need to calculate all disturbing factors complicating the observed radon anomalies. I used CANARY-pro devices for detecting radon emission in fault plane, and by using caves developed across the faults. This device is good if you put the logger into a dryer-case. This I mean, you need to decrease the atmospheric humidity affecting the device, but not affecting the radon concentration. CANARY records one measurement each hour, and as far as I know, they have been working 5 months with no problems. How ever, if your intention is to get data at real time BARASOL is your choice.

Our idea is to put inside an active fault by using caves developed across the fault plane (100m depth), a logger and 24 monitoring.
I hope that this helps you, although this device is more expensive than others
