In fact, I have no idea how the RG score algorithm works. It seems to me that none knows except the RG team.

My point increased with just 0.22 even with +4367 reads and +475 recommendations.

Really i don't know how RG score was calculated, but i think it is depends to the activity of RG members in every week, or probability calculated by equation dependent to number of readers and number of recommendations (relationship between them). I hope to know how score is calculations.

Your RG scores are not just influenced by what you do. The impact of the journals you publish in, the ratings of those who interact with you, and the general activity of other RG members affect your weekly scores. My points decreased by 0.06 this week despite the fact that I added 3 new publications, had 400+ reads, had 50+ recommendations, had my first citation and gaining over five followers.

It is pretty difficult to understand the RG score algorithms. I have stopped bothering myself with the issue of the score and decided to overlook it while focusing on the gains of interacting with other colleagues on this platform. I didn't say you won't be bothered about your score but relax, nobody knows exactly how the RG score is calculated. I have had experience of decline in RG score for not less than three consecutive times.

It is normal to witness or experience such on this platform on issue relating to RG score.

I am not concentrate on RG score, but i think RG score depends mostly on the citations and number of publication's read especially full text.

I wondering whether you have joined RG to increase your RG score or to provide (or receive) Research related support. There is no thing to do with RG score. Please just to your duty, take it worry, do not focus on the Rg score.

Let's forget their scoring system and manipulate this forum as a portal where we exchange and share our ideas and thoughts.

For me, I don’t worry about the RG score. I think the true measure of a researcher is on papers published and citations received. Papers shows that you are an active researcher and citations show that other researchers are acknowledging your work. Recommendations, Reads and anything else fall secondary to papers and cites.

Just ignore the score, use this site to interact with other researchers, help others out were possible and enjoy it.

I had the same issue before. When I contacted RG Community Support, I received this reply as follows:

Dear Mohammad, Thanks for getting in touch. The RG Score is relative, so it can go up or down depending on the activity and scores of other ResearchGate members. This means it takes the scores and interactions of every researcher into account to give a relative rating of your contributions.

Here are some additional ways to improve your score:

 - Share your published and unpublished work such as articles, preprints, and raw data  - Create a project, or add an update to an existing project  - Ask a question or provide high-quality answers to others' questions  - Follow researchers  - Add useful comments on other people's research and projects  - Recommend high-quality research   - Make sure that your articles are correctly linked to the journal they were published in

To update the journal information on a research item:

RG score is relative. It also depends on the activities of others. It is calculated with scientific criteria.

It has happened to me before too. You may need to publish in high impact journals and uploaded on RG .

Interact effectively with other RG members, answering questions, asking questions and recommending other person's work.

It seems many RG members did not know how the score is calculated.

I think sometimes it is not fare the way RG calculates the scores!!!

For sure there is something wrong with the system of calculations. It is unfair for many reasons. Sometimes, the score keeps decreasing for no reason.

However, the score has no importance, the most important thing is this communication among researchers.

RG Score is relative score with other members. if some member do better then you it also decline

I found the formula of calculating RG score in somewhere RG itself.

My score also had decrease a few days ago. So, the calculation of score should be clear and countable.

RG score calculation system is totally obscure, so nobody can say whether it's right or wrong.

The algorithm used by RG also beats me I had a modest increase of 0.3 points last after previous 2 weeks of decrease. In the weeks before the increase i lost 0.23 points in spite of having more than a1000 reads, citations and recommendations. When I added 2 publications and 16 citations i felt that the 03 increase was not good enough

I am satisfied with the increase of RG score ending this week of 9th Dec., which is @ 0.48.

Last week I was twice active on RG. It did not show on the score ... I do not know ... or I cease to be active, or I delete my account !!

I just don't know "magic" formula for RG score! Sometimes RG score go up, sometimes go down without logical explanations.

The truth has been twice for the decline in my account in Raj .. What I notice the increase is slight and not commensurate with the size of the interaction as well as the low balance and this fact I do not understand why the balance is low and does not remain a conservative.

I agree with Hemin Vardhilal Thakkar, Dawood Mahdi, Seyed Mehdi Mohammadizadeh, and I am enthusiastic to know about this issue.

I think this is a relative measurement tool. If your group or connection network is hardworking, you are expected to perform better to get some scores. In my opinion this is like gambling, and I don’t like it. Anyways, don’t be discouraged by this and let’s keep on what we are doing, exchanging ideas and informatio, for that’s why we are here on RG.

There is also negative system in RG Score. We must remain alert while reacting on RG. It also depends on the activities of others scholar or participants.

Interesting discussion. Though I have had the opportunity of reading on how RG score is calculated from RG and other researchers. I am however of the view that the RG score calculations appears not logical in some instances and in need of improvement to ensure that the scoring is consistent at all time to all researchers.

Srdjan Atanasijevic And Dawood Mahdi there Is a note on my profile from the Researchgate team to say they have removed the controversial RG score. It’s not a bug or issue with the system.

Naseer, I had the same problem for over a month, which like you I brought to the forum. Where are your recommendations coming from? At least 20 of mine arrived from the same source thereby fiddling might have been assumed. That source has gone from RG and the problem no longer exists and my score is rising again.

At the RG office, they seem to be endeavoring to improve the calculation of the RG score. The other day, I saw a beta version of my score (though I found it not so much different from the present one) together with questions to give my feedback. Anyway, I agree with those answers here that mention the problems of the calculation of the score.

Researchgate deleted the old RG Score in 14 Dec 2018

In its latest database update, Researchgate deleted the old RG Score for each researcher and replaced it with a new score "Research Interest" (which does not appear in the researcher's profile) and updated the statistics section on the researchers' profiles and research items.

I lost my RG Score after commenting the RG score. Who care? The important things that we do and publishing our article as many as you can.

Yes, Reza, it is not important-not really. After I had a month of my score going down, even though my readers and recommendations doubled, I decided to put far less effort into RG. Wisely, I think. I was less upset by the falling score than by my not being able to understand why. It seemed simply random.

Before the above occurred, I had noticed that scores could be increased by adding recommendations, but since the above I am far less concerned. I leave readership and recommendations to themselves and do not try and answer as many questions as I can, but only go to RG when I have the time.

In many other ranking group they consider only citations in calculating score.
