HI, I have seen in the cellular environment with sf9 a strange structure, it is similar to a long fiber, sometimes short too. There are not many, it is possible to identify between 3-5 such structures in my flasks. The cells grow normally, viable, there is no contamination turbidity aspect in my culture medium and cottony aspects do not appear in the medium.

Dear Isabel,
You are culturing sf9. Is this Spodoptera frugiperda (fall army worm)? From your description, it's possible that your culture is contaminated w/ fungi. One way you can test this is to aseptically remove some of the sf9 culture and inoculate it into sterile media conducive to the growth of fungi and incubate this for a few days w/ shaking at ~30C. If you do have fungal contamination, you will see it in the subculture.
Media for culturing fungi include:
1. Malt extract broth: This contains 6 g malt extract base, 1.8 g maltose, 6 g dextrose (glucose) & 1.2 g yeast extract plus 1 L of DI water. pH ~4.7
2, Sabouraud dextrose broth: This contains 10 g neopeptone & 20 g dextrose plus 1 L of DI water. pH 5.6
