I have been having isssues getting pure THC form the USA and it seems the price from sigma is exhorbitant. I want to get the plant and extract THC. i was told by someone that soxhlet extraction will work, i am not very sure. Will it give similar outcome with high performance liquid chromatography

Certainly not if you care about the purity. After extraction, you will need to purify further.
So in place like Nigeria what exactly is the prefered method of extraction?
Soxhlet is just an extraction method. If you want to get THC, the choice of extraction solvent is very important. THC is a semipolar compound, semipolar compounds are easier to extract using ethyl acetate or diethyl ether. An effective instrument for extraction using Speed Extractor from Buchi.
There are different ways to obtain THC from plant material. If your equipment is limited i would suggest the following:
- weighing the plant material
- grinding the plant material
- adding ethanol (10x the plant material weight) / other solvents are also possible
- freezing the solution in a freezer (the colder the better, but not less than -50C) and shaking every couple of hours / you can use dry ice as well
- after 24-48 hours the waxes and lipids are frozen and can be removed by filtration (vacuum assisted filtration works best)
- the winterization can be repeated to improve the purity
