I want to functionalize (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) on the surface of Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN). Due to the availability of ethanol (99%) and magnetic stirrer, I took 0.5 g of MSN, to it 1.875 ml APTES was added and 31.25 ml ethanol. The mixture was stirred for 24 hour at room temperature under 200-400 RPM. After 24 hours the mixture was centrifuge and washed three times with 99% ethanol and dried overnight at 45 degree centigrade in a hot-air oven. I checked the presence of linked APTES with Ninhydrin test which showed negative result.

1) Is there any other method where it is possible to link APTES on the surface of MSN?

2) Is there any other spectrophotometric method to detect the functionalization percentage on the MSN?
