I heard that you should store DMSO not to long in a plastic falcon, but always take it fresh from the dark glass bottle. Is that true ? and if yes, does anybody have an explanation ?
DMSO is compatible with plastics like PETE, HDPE, LDPE ,PTFE and PP, however it is not compatible with other plastics such as , PVC, PS and poly carbonate due to its reactivity .Also reacts with many acid chlorides,
DMSO is highly hygrocopic and stored in air tight bottles.Since it is highly hygroscopic it always proffered to use fresh solvents ..
I am also confused about this problem, when I use DMSO dissolute coumarin 7, and then store in plastic tube, use fulorescence imaging, but i can not get right shape of it tube
We can simply aliquote DMSO into 1.5 ml or 2 ml eppendorf tube and keep in 4C. It does not matter. Since the tube is small, it will not take much time to thaw again. It is safe. I have been using such way for 15 years. No issue at all.
