I have experienced dancing black dots in my cell culture, upon finding the little buggers down a microscope I binned them and ordered new cells. I binned all products used with the cell line, media, serum etc and completely drenched my lab in virkon and IMS, the hood, incubator, water bath, fridge.. EVERYTHING!
I resuscitated the new cell line the following week and found the same issue again. I repeated the steps above.
I resuscitated new cells again alongside my manager to ensure my technique was fine and that I wasn't making silly mistakes and the same again 3 days after resus these little black buggers started eating into my cells. This time even my cells containing Pen/strep had these little dancing black dots in them and dancing around.
Does anyone know what this could be and how to get rid of this problem? I've spent an absolute fortune replacing cells and on new material and time on decontaminating the lab. Short of fumigating the lab I'm unsure of what else i could do and how to find the source of the problem?
