An implant was designed and implanted on a sawbone. The implant and bone were meshed all together. As you can see in the picture attached the blue colour is the implant and green the cancellous bone. Can you please tell me how to create a contact pait between these two in APDL
? I have tried choosing exterior nodes in cancellous and all nodes in case of implant but it did not work. Any kind of help will be of great use to me. Thank you
Hi, May be you could create an external layer on the implant before implanting with no volume for this new layer.
You have to select nodes on contacting surfaces of bone and implant, and create contact pair.
@Masud Rana I could just take the exterior nodes of the cancellous bone and implant and form the contact pair right?
Yes, you have to select nodes on the bone part and implant part separately on the bone-implant interface (as contact and target) and create contact pair.
@Masud Rana What I found is that without any space between bone and implant, the contact pair is not being formed.
OK. If you still have problems I have two simple options:
1. If you really need contact pair, better use workbench instead of APDL, contacts will be automatically detected.
2. If there is no scope of friction, simply merge the nodes and do not use contact pair.
@Masud Rana Thank you for your suggestion. I tried in workbench and there was automatic detection of the contacts. But then I eventually want to work in APDL. Can I transfer from workbench to apdl after contact generation?
Yes you can transfer the FE informations in .inp or .cdb file. (Tools> write input file)
