How to determine if a particular drug, plant, mushroom or a component of mushroom (polysaccharides, protein etc) is a patent? I tried doing by Google, but still confuse whether its the right way or not.
Go to the patent office's website (for whichever country you wish to check) to search or hire a patent attorney to conduct a search for you.
For example, in the United States of America, we use the PTO [https://www.uspto.gov/patents-application-process/search-patents]. For the European office, you can use their website [https://register.epo.org/]
Patent search is a tedious job. Still, this work is very important part of writing a new patent proposal. It is required to establish the novelty of your work with respect to prior art.
Please see some useful sites for patent search:
Google search: www.google.com/patents
Global Patent Search Network (GPSN) enables users to search the full text of multiple international patent collections. http://worldwide.espacenet.com/
World Intellectual Property Organization: http://www.wipo.int/
