i have been working on ASTM standard model in ANSYS workbench. its been crashing due to error message says, "your product license has numerical problem size limits, you have exceeded these problem size limits and the solver cannot proceed". is there any way like scaling, merging nodes to reduce no of nodes for further analysis.
Create the model in solidworks and do this analysis in ntopology . Export the file as FE model and import that in ansys .
As I remember, the old version of Academic will limit number of elements/nodes to 32k. In newest version, this number is 128k. So I recommend upgrade to newest version: https://www.ansys.com/academic/students/ansys-student
Select the Mesh branch, you will see number of Elements and Nodes in Details window
You can reduce Number of Elements or Nodes by using some mesh controls (RMB on Mesh> Sizing) or use Linear mesh (Element Order = Linear)
Follow Prof Denis Benasciutti suggestion. If you wish to retain the whole structure of your model you can create the geometry as a surface instead of solid (you can do this either in ANSYS or SOLIDWORKS), then employ the 2D (plane) analysis. But you can also use symmetry to reduce your model's structure and hence the number of element (this will work for either solid element or 2D plane elements).
