I currently have 16 multidrug resistant strains of E. coli (supposedly). But I need to ensure they ARE actually E. coli.

I have been directed to IMViC test which doesn't seem conclusive or cost-effective. What could be a more conclusive but cost-effective method of confirmation?

I am also open to PCR techniques as long as sequencing is not involved (I don't have access to a DNA sequencer).
