10 mL solution containing phenol (mg/L) was added to soil (1 g).
this was shaken for 24 hours.
solution was analysed for phenol concentration before and after and phenol was calculated as mg/L.
now i have phenol concentration (mg/L) in solution before adding to soil and after adding to soil.
how can i determine % absorption of phenol by soil?
If you know the volume and concentration you can calculate the quantity in solution, both before and after sorption. Take the difference, divide by the initial quantity and multiply by 100. It is a normal % calculation.
50 µl of each extract solution was transferred to a test tube and then mixed thoroughly with 450µl of distilled water and 2.5 ml of 0.2 N Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. Where Cs is the concentration of phenol and Ct is the concentration of residual phenol after adsorption had taken place after a period of time.
