Among the above topics mentioned by you I can share with you the possible role of mitochondria in stem cell differentiation. As far as the role of mitochondria in stem cell differentiation is concerned, mitochondrial biogenesis and metabolic switches could be considered as hallmarks of stem cell differentiation process. Mitochondrial function could dictate the fate of stem cells whether to be maintained in quiescent stage or become activated or self-renew or commit to differentiation. The mitochondrial energy output is associated with the functional outcomes of stem cells.
Whenever there is differentiation of stem cells it is associated with metabolic shift from a predominant glycolysis-based metabolism towards an increased oxidative phosphorylation-based metabolism. Increased level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced due to leakage of electrons in the Electron Transport Chain (ETC) might be necessary for the commitment of stem cells to specific cell-type by activation of specific signaling pathways.
Also, the citric acid cycle which takes place in the matrix of the mitochondria generates many intermediates which could serve as co-factors for histone and DNA modifying enzymes leading to epigenetic remodeling which is essential for self-renewal, commitment and differentiation processes of stem cells.
