I wish to purify phenylpropanoids in lab from the plant root exudates without usage of any commercially available kit (due to its cost). Is it possible to purify using packed columns (chromatography) as I have bulk amount of sample?
If you are looking for cheap solution, easiest way is to use a silica gel column chromatography. Use the adsorbent as you use for thin layer chromatography, one that does not contain binders (gypsum). If you have a good TLC system in which are separated the materials, then use the TLC developing solvent as eluent. Often it is worth to take back something to the solvent or solvent mixture polarity. Such on a column is well be separated the individual components. It is used for a column in which a small overpressure can be established. It was not my job with phenylpropanoids, but I used more natural materials separation of success with this method.
