I'm currently working on my academic project and it is required to perform a simulation about ASTM D575-91 (Method B) using ANSYS. I'm totally new to ANSYS, hoping someone can help me out.
"The compressive load (50-kN load cell) was applied at a rate of 12mm/minute until the specimen thickness became 10mm." The origin thickness is 12.5mm. Shape is cylindrical with 28.6mm diameters.
Is it better to use Static Structural or Transient Structural? And how do I define the condition? I tried YouTube but nothing similar is found.
You question seems ill defined.
You can either provide a known force or known deformation rate, but not both.
If you apply constant deformation rate of the boundary (12 mm/minute ) then simulation will give you force as an output, which is vary dependent on material properties. For this you will need time dependent analysis.
If you apply a constant load (50 kN) then you will get deformation as an output (the value which you cannot control) depending on material properties.
So you can only assign one of the two for a given material whose properties are known.
The only case where you can specify both Force and deformation rate is when you are designing a material and trying to figure out what material properties it should have so that you get the desired deformation rate when desired load is applied.
This is inverse problem and it is much harder to solve then direct problems
You need to define your problem correctly. I can't see what do you need to achieve from this modelling?
Obviously, if you are trying to insert velocity as an input factor, this means your analysis is going with the dynamic side.
