The key point is the water content of the membrane!
First immerse the membrane in ethanol (this will help water to penetrate into the pores); then soak it in water for a couple hours. Then wipe the surface water out and put the membrane in liquid nitrogen. You'll see it become brittle and easily broken.
It is useful to make a scrape on the outer support surface by a surgical razor blade and then immerse it in liquid nitrogen. Break the sample from the support side.

I am trying to obtain cross section images of nanowires grown inside PC membranes. Thank you all. Attached is an image from a template cut with a razor blade.
