I have been studying cloud point extraction using different surfactants, but when I do so the micelle volume formed, that can be considered for physical parameter estimation, is very small (for a 20 ml system I get a least of less than 1 ml and with increasing concentration I get up to 2 or 3 ml). By adding an oil phase to the system the cloud point will definitely vary and so I can't have the system study of just the surfactant alone. Is there a specific way of studying the same or a device to perform the study?
Papers mention that the study was performed in 15 ml tubes, but they are not much concerned about the physical parameters but on the cloud point temperature unlike reverse micelles. The solution for this problem would really help in my continuous extraction studies.
I do not understand your question well. Do you mean that, above the cloud point of your surfactant aqueous solution, you only get a small surfactant-rich phase (coacervate)? If so, this is quite satisfactory since the goal of Cloud Point Extraction is to obtain a low coacervate volume fraction in order to concentrate the extracted solute. Of course, you will get more coacervate by increasing surfactant concentration.
- Thank you Dr. Jean paul canselier , yes that was my question. I just wanted to study the physical parameters of the coacervate phase formed; which I believe would be very less unless I do it in bulk amount.
In a continuous cloud point extraction studies in rotating disc contactor, the physical parameters of the Micelle phase were studied, i was concerned about the same in batch studies in a 15 ml tube.
