Hello, does anybody know how to force liver cells into extracellular matrix production. Do I need co culture with stellate cells or I can work directly with liver cells (e.g. Huh7, HepGs,...,). Thanks
Hi Federico, hepatocytes do not form ECM, but the stellate cells can.

You cant using hepatocytes, only stellate cells produce the matrix, you can stimulate stellate cells using IL6
Hepatocytes does produce the relatively very low ECM, which could be considered negligible, but with the surrounding accessory cell like stellate cell, macrophages produce a whole lot of ECM with stimulation ranging from TGF beta being the best and other cytokines like TNF alpha, IL-6 and other.

Liver cells may be co- cultured with stellate cells as well as may be transformed to cell type which produces ECM.
