I would like to set up a system for culturing active osteoclasts and I was wondering what people would recommend for a substrate? I know that dentin and bone can be used, but I was wondering if anyone had had success with something commercially available that is both cheap and robust to use!

The Willy Hofstetter group in Bern measures osteoclast resorption on this calcium phosphate coating: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25910236
It might be more standardizable than bone or dentin, and the reagents are very cheap.
