I've tried growing Candida tropicalis in Gibco Human Plasma Like Medium (HPLM) from TermoFisher and, despite the presence of all nutrients this specie needs, it didn't grow.
Hi, Dr. Phil Geis. I was actually trying to mimic candidemia conditions. Now I realize that, besides basic nutrients, there are additional host factors (such as growth factors, proteins, and cell interactions) that allow Candida to survive and adapt in the bloodstream. This was just a preliminary test. I’m well aware of the high cost of Human Plasma-Like Medium. For my standard experiments, I usually grow Candida in RPMI, as recommended by EUCAST. Thank you for your answer!
