Can Rasch analysis indicate which items belong to a certain category?
I am trying to validate a survey about anxiety. The Likert scale is from 1 to 6 for each of the 17 items. My goal is to determine which items belong to each category. Before trying Rasch analysis, I did Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, but the results were not the ones that I expected. Therefore, I want to run a Rasch analysis, which is new for me. So, my first question is whether Rasch analysis can show which items belong to each category? If yes, how does it? Thank you in advance!
In the Rasch model, people are given the characteristics of the level of latent ability and the item@@s are given the characteristics of the level of difficulty. The probability of answering correctly a function is a function of the ratio between the level of ability and the difficulty of the item. Therefore, the structure of your instrument may be a factor here. I would suggest you use Ranking instead of Likert scale to give weight to every construct in your instrument. The categorization of item item into the strata of difficulty level is possible after treatment.

Nicole Moskowitz, the item fit statistics will provide insight on the appropriateness of each item assigned to particular item categories under the proposed model.
