General anesthetic dose of Ketamine - 80mg/kg & Xylazine - 10mg/kg will affect heart rate of rat? anyone will experienced ECG recording using this anesthetic combination and how much heart rate would observed?
General anesthesia with Ketamine+Xylazine decreased strongly heart rate in rats, mice, rabbits and other animals. You can find the information about the effects of this type of anesthesia on heart rate in rats in the study conducted by Olson ME et al. (see attached file).
Thanks Jin Bo Su for your attached paper. But I wonder if you can give me some option of drugs that I can use for anesthetic before ECG recording. Because I use Ketamine/Xylazine (10mg/kg) and I also wonder like Sakthivel's question.
replace xylazine for a benzodiazepine like midazolam but ideally you should use halogenates (Neil is correct). Don't use ketamine alone, it needs a sedative to go along or else you will get animal agitation and tachycardia. The ideal option is telemetrics of course.
