I've performed a series of motility assays on a lab strain of Ecoli but I cannot determine if its swimming or swarming motility. Here's a summary of the protocol:

1) Grow overnight culture in Tryptone broth (1% tryptone, 0.5% NaCl)

2) Grow to log phase in Tryptone broth

3) Inoculate 1ul in the center of 0.25% agar

4) Incubate at 30°C for 24 hours
