Does mammalian sperm have a charge [+ or -] associated with male and female. Some electrophoresis work indicates that male sperm may have a stronger posisitve charge thatn the X bearing female sperm.
Spermatozoa from different sex can have a different electric charge corresponding to its chromosome status, such as X-positive charge, Y-negative charge, which could be used for sperm sorting.
The net charge of spermatozoa could be modified by seminal vesicular fluid but not by prostatic secretion.
Spermatozoa from some apparently infertile men have an isoelectric point (PI; where no net electrical charge) consistently higher than those from fertile men.
I will continue with some results. we have improved fertility rates in porcine and canine with one set of targeted magnetic particles and we have had mixed results with separating X from Y sperm in Bovine and equine. Currentlywe are evaluating human sperm for Gender Selection. Are there other surface markers you could suggest for Gender on sperm?
I believe there are many surface molecules, which could be used as potential markers for sex selection.
Surface proteins on spermatozoon are a group of molecules under strong positive selection, which could lead to specifies-specific, and which means that one marker useful in one organism does not apply to others.
Keep in mind that the sex selection in human is illegal to some extent. Natural selection is the best. (ref: Article 14 of the Council of Europe's 1997 Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine)
We encountered the Gender Selection in Italy, that it was considered a moral issue. The same for Korea. What surface markers on sperm do you think would be indicative of gender or species specific surface markers on sperm. We would appreciate any suggestions you may have for potential surface markers for sex selection?
On another set of testing, with different magnetic particles, we are showing improved fertility rates with Porcine and Rabbits. Removing moribund sperm might improve fertility rates just from a statistical point of view.Any thoughts?
