The intensity of a farm may be defined as ‘the level of inputs used by the farm per unit of production’.  Often, this is expressed by land use, for example in the case of milk production; the intensity of the dairy farm may be expressed as: ‘m2 land/kg of energy corrected milk’.  Amount of concentrate use per unit weight of milk production is also used to indicate the intensity of production.  Indirectly, the amount of ‘concentrate feed use’ also related to land use.  That is to say: higher the amount of concentrate use, lesser the land area required for unit of milk production.  Following site provides some useful information regarding this question.  I hope that is useful.

In New York we have used animal density (animal units per unit area) to gauge the risk excessive nutrient loading. This was made with the dairy industry in mind but may be applicable in your case. See the link.
