Interesting that there is nearly no breast cell line without EPCAM... why is that?
Weinberg's HMLER cells are EPCAM negative and Weinberg is great in sending them out. HMLER cells are derived from human mammary epithelial cells and immortalized and transformed iwth SV40LT and oncogenic RAS. And these cells have NOT undergone the huge selection pressure that metastatic cancer cell lines have gone through. I think this is a great cell line as HMLER cells are very heterogeneous and have stable and sortable populations of cells with different phenotypes, AND they still contain the population of CD24+/CD44- cells which is highly plastic but that is irreversibly lost in most other basal cell lines.
