I'm working on a project with sodium carboxymethylcellulose and I wanna know how to improve the solubility of sodium carboxymethylcellulose hidrated if I mix this with ethanol 96% on a proportion of 65%.

unfortunately polysaccharides and their derivatives are incompatible with higher concentrations of alcohols. You may try DMSO.

Hi, thanks by your apreciation, I´m making a product with this combination, is a little simple but the process takes too long, my objective is reduce the time of fabrication and make a better product because by the incompatibility the alcohol generate a dispersion of the cmc, that is the reason why I was thinking in improve the solubility, I make a variation making a solution of the cmc with glicerin and this make a better mix of the product, but i still have not found another solution.
Is it unavoidable to have both alcohol and CMC in the product?
If the alcohol is necessary, maybe you can use another thickener, maybe clay or Aerosil.
No, I only have this combination of ingredients, i will prefer carbomer and triethanolamine but the key is the price of the ingredient :-P. Thank you for the support, You make me think in something different with the aerosil, maybe can cause a turbidity in my mix but i´m will do the experiment. Thank you again.
