Now, as ITS1 is a spacer sequence flanking the 3’- end of the SSU rRNA and the 5’-end of the 5.8S rRNA gene, we should expect an equivalent numbers of ITS1 copies as ribosomal copies exists. The ribosomal gene is a multicopy gene.
