All conferences are not funded. Some are partially funded and some are fully funded. But it is always arranged for sharing knowledge.

I don't know why you are against such self supported conferences. They may earn money, or may publish the papers or not, but conference is important.

Dear Atun Roychoudhury, in my opinion, the number of meetings, which have come to the forefront in the commercial aspect, have increased in recent years. I think the problem is in the meetings where only financial gain is at the forefront. Of course, this should not be generalized in a negative way for all academic activities. I would like to emphasize that meetings with academic background, years of experience and scientific sharing are ongoing.

Selection of good and meaningful conferences is our own duty. But using logo of some publishers without their consent is wrong and unethical.

I agree with Emmanuel Vijayanand Murray there are many fake conferences.

For me, conferences are useful and successful primarily for networking, developing ideas, it also can lead to people soliciting your work...etc

I was recently invited to be a speaker about my thesis project especially my first paper in Paris through a genetic conference in june... i checked it out and found that the previous organised conferences were successful with high quality data but i already have other commitments at june so i cant make it... the point is that the researcher should before accepting or refusing the invitation search for some reliable infos about the conference...

Starting with the need to circulate these academic activities in a negative way, most of the conferences are useful for researchers. Also to everyone before registering at any conference to attend or participate in it to ensure the background and academic quality to be a good choice and a scientific sense can be used through exchange of views and experiences with all researchers involved in it.

The researcher should search for good conferences before registering, as many fake conferences are springing up these days. So researchers muct gurd against then. Conferences provide a great forum for academic discourse and networking. Hence, they shouldnt be underesrimated.

As long as the conference is real and out there, yes its worth participating! However, always google it first and look for information about the organizers.

Conferences like the ones you have rightly described are simply a waste of time because the incentive behind them is financial and they are qualitatively different from genuine conferences whose aim is he dissemination of academic knowledge and information.

Check the topic, theme, resource persons of a conference and then think of registration. It's a great idea to never go empty handed but always present a paper or your research work.
