I didn't find any data source for continuous time series since 1950. NHB Residex and RBI give data from 2013 and 2010 onwards. Please guide. Thanks !!!
To get the historical housing or real estate price data for India from 1950 to the present, you can consider the following sources:
1. **Reserve Bank of India (RBI)**: The RBI publishes the All India House Price Index (HPI) on a quarterly basis. This index tracks the movement of residential property prices across India. You can find the HPI data on the RBI website (https://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/PublicationsView.aspx?id=19006).
2. **National Housing Bank (NHB)**: The NHB, a subsidiary of the RBI, publishes the NHB RESIDEX, which is a housing price index for major cities in India. The RESIDEX data is available from 2007 onwards. You can find the data on the NHB website (https://nhb.org.in/publications/housing-price-indices/).
3. **Private Data Providers**:
- PropIndex by Magicbricks: Magicbricks, a leading real estate portal, publishes the PropIndex report, which provides quarterly real estate price trends for major cities in India.
- Knight Frank India: The global real estate consultancy firm Knight Frank publishes an annual India Real Estate report that includes historical real estate price data.
- Liases Foras: This real estate research firm publishes the Real Estate Monitor report, which includes city-wise real estate price data.
These private data providers may require a subscription or purchase to access the historical data.
4. **Government Sources**:
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA): The MoHUA may have some historical real estate price data, though the coverage and frequency may be limited.
- State/City-level Housing Boards or Development Authorities: Some state governments or city-level authorities may have their own real estate price indices or data sources.
I'd recommend starting with the RBI and NHB data sources, as they are the most widely recognized and authoritative sources for national-level real estate price indices in India. You may need to supplement this with additional data from private providers or other government sources, depending on your specific research or analysis requirements.
Thanks Souad Djegham and Chuck A Arize for taking time to answer my query. I tried these sources but the problem is the best I am getting data is from 2007 onwards. NHB Residex is reported 2007 onwards and RBI HPI is from 2010 onwards. I need to have a continuous time series data since 1950.Any further suggestions in this regard would be very helpful. Thanks
It is hypothetical question Rashmi Ahuja, let me take this opportunity and try to address your question. There are a lot of amendments and regulations are implements over a period of 7 decades in the subject matter. However the values of the land and building are perceived by people with respect to social need and cavillation. In record the guideline values of the land is key function, the guideline values were arrived with base records and registered in Government. The base records are qualitative and not falling under simple arithmetic. In general guideline values of the land are much lowers than market values in the present days.
