I was wondering if HaCaT (and human keratinocytes in general) express Type I Collagen? I've done a fairly broad literature search on PubMed and Google Scholar but I can't seem to find anything either way. Does anyone have any papers?
If they do secrete collagen I, do they always secrete it or do they need to be induced?
HaCaT and human keratinocytes express collagen IV, VII and XVII. They should not produce collagen I, a classical product from fibroblasts and several other mesenchymal cells.

I agree with Monique, but...
I have seen a lot of things called HaCaT and their expression patterns could not be more diverse. Some say a "real" HaCaT must not be older than passage 40 and concerning the use as a keratinocyte model I strongly agree.
In terms of Col I expression, I wouldn't expect any Col I expression, but I would suggested to check this on the mRNA and/or protein level.
