Platelet is a nucleated cell and PI is specific nuclei binding DNA dye. So I was wondering whether PI works in differentiating dead and apoptositc platelets.
Hi Mallikarjun, I'm afraid you are mistaken. Human platelets do not have a nucleus.
You can't distinguish dead and apoptotic platelets, You can distinguish them on the basis of their functionality and by parameters that are collectively termed "platelet storage lesions".
I agree with Dr. Steingrimur Stefansson, PI can not be used on platelets we used it on platelet precursor -megakaryocyte's and not on platelet directly
