I am running multilevel modeling in SPSS for a dataset from a cluster randomized controlled trial. I know we can add continuous and dichotomous variables and check their association with dependent variable (continuous). But we can check association of a categorical variable with continuous outcome in this model?

You second sentence says you understand you can do it.
The third question says 'can you do it?'. I am guessing that you are asking about non -dichotomous categorical variables. If so have a look at

For the fixed part it is basically the same as for standard regression.
Random effects are observed when the set of values of a categorical predictor variable are seen not as the complete set but rather as a random sample of all values. Yes, you absolutely can examine the relationship between categorical continuous outcome in this model. It should be analyzed by means of linear regression models (GLM) not including (unadjusted analyses) or including (adjusted analyses) additional covariates that may be potential confounders.
