There is no difference

If the starting tissue sample is a single cell suspension of tumor cells then there is no difference between tumor spheres and spheriods. However, normal tissue can also be made into single-cell suspension and cultured in non-adherent plates to create spheriods. The term tumor spheres are typically used to describe spheroids that are grown from signle-cell suspensions of tumor cells.
