I'm working on wolbachia bacteria to study it's antiviral activities in silk warm cell lines. However, I'm not finding the source of bacteria to purchase. Can anyone help me regarding this?
Few obligate intracellular bacteria that require specialized cell lines are maintained in collections, and Wolbachia probably falls into this category. I would contact researchers that have published on using Wolbachia and request samples. In particular, contact researchers in your home country to reduce transit times, expense, and customs issues. Expect to pay for overnight shipping and be prepared with appropriate host cells and media.
If you are interested in finding Wolbachia yourself, you may need to do the screening on insects. These bacteria are likely to infect females, because of the growth in the ovaries. Wolbachias are known for the sex alteration of their host. You may find these bacteria in, e.g. wasps, mosquitoes or flies (including fruit fly Drosophilia). My experience in the subject is based only on literature so I am not able to give you any methodological tips. This subject is extremely interesting so I wish you good luck and wait for the outcome of your research!
Here I have a link to the World Federation for Culture Collections (www.wfcc.info/index.php/collections/display) with worldwide registrated culture collections. Maybe there is a collection that has your needed strain.
