I recently fabricated NiSn and NiCoSn nanowires through templates based electrodeposition method. Someone asked me that you can used FTIR spectroscopy to examine the bonding between atoms in your sample but I'm little confused. How it possible the bond between Ni-Sn and Co-Sn shows any IR absorption because the electronegative difference is zero. I needs yours expert opinions about this confusion.
You should avoid as explained below with a reference:
[1]Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) identifies chemical bonds in a molecule by producing an infrared absorption spectrum. The FTIR generates an infrared spectral scan of samples that absorb infrared light.
[2]Metals do not absorb infrared light because vibrational frequencies of the metal-metal bonds are beyond the measuring range of conventional FTIR spectrometers[700-6000 cm^–1]
{ Pls. look in the paragraph given at the bottom of the page 150 of the reference given below}.
[3]Pls. remember that the IR absorption band will be observed for each vibration degree of freedom provided there occurs a change in the dipole moment during vibration.

Yes, you can.
When heated up - the sample emits IR. Thus, by using "a black-body" (it does not emit IR) as a reference - you can obtain the spectrum M1-M2 bond. The sensitivity of IR detectors is so high - that you even do not need to heat your sample over 100-150C. [but you will need to change the optical scheme - placing your sample not in the sample chamber - please read Instruction for your FTIR instrument]

I am surprised that both Manohar and Leonid offer contradictory suggestions. however, I will go with Manohar as his arguments are quite Logical. I advise U to consult a chemist who is well versed in FTIR and Metal-ion Chemistry.
I am not in the IR field, but metallic-nanowires(!) in FTIR-transmission mode must show at least one plasma characteristic signature.
I agree with Manohor too. You may be aware that when we speak about FTIR we are referring to the Mid-IR region, there are however options to run spectra in the Near-IR (above 4000 cm-1) or in the Far-IR (below 600 cm-1). You need a Far-IR set-up to get some information about metal-metal bonds. Alternatively you may have a think about Raman spectroscopy, which covers the wavenumber range of both the Mid- and Far-IR, though the physical principal behind obtaining a spectrum is different (inelastically scattered light)

Just a brief comment to Theo Kloprogge's comment:
I was lucky to have an opportunity to work on one of the first ever made FT-IR spectrometers (more precisely No.7) constructed by Bio-Rad's Digilab Division.
The spectrometers made at those "ancient" times (70th) - were excellent - since
the manufacturers were trying to show the researchers - a great number of new opportunities/objects possible to study by IR [as well as, I gues, them themselves - at those times had no precise understanding - of where the greatest success of such an "all-purpose-measurements" would be achieved.. The resolution ranges started from 0.01cm-1 !!! - for studies for example the gaseous composition of remote layers of atmosphere. These spectrometers also had a special set of optics - for Far IR measurements (with Hg-lamp as a source; another beamsplitter... . To the best of my knowledge - about 30-50 such an instruments (attached to present-days computers) still are successfully used.
