To assess the antiosteoporotic activity in vitro, In literature, many manuscripts explain the use of hFOB cells. We enquired at NCCS, they do not have.
The hFOB cells requires 32 degree for sub-culturing and maintaining. We have cell lab, but we grow cancer cells and normal cells which grow at 37 degree. Is there any alternative to hFOB?

Thank you very much, I have at least one option to get it from your lab. It seems you are the right person I can have discussion. My other question was the alternative to hFOB cells as hFOB cells grow only at 32 degree, is there any alternative osteoblastic cells which can grow at 37 degree, as our lab also has cancer cells growing simultaneously.

U2OS (osteoblast cell line) is a osteosarcoma cell line which will grow in 37.

The hFOB cells grow well at temp below 34 degrees. the reason being, the cell line is transfected with SV40 so as to immortalize the cells.Cells grown at a permissive temperature of 33.5°C exhibit rapid cell division (Doubling time of 36 hrs), whereas little cell division occurs at a restrictive temperature of 39.5°C (Doubling time of 96 hrs). The lower temperature is optimal for cell growth as the SV gene is not activated .but once u grow the cells at temp 37 degrees the SV gene is activated and cells start differentiating.hope my explanation could help u
Dear Atik, Its wonderful. I didnot know the actual reason behind it, as we never went in depth about the cell lines, where as our main goal was to test the antiosteoporotic activity. Thank you very much for the answer.
