EDX results contain usually weight percentage and atom percentage of the elements present in the sample. By analyzing the atom %, we can understand the compound/phase. For eg., if EDS analysis give approx. 66%Al and 33%Cu, then the phase is possibly CuAl2. We can also convert to eqvt wt% for verification.
I am an Ex- SEM specialist. The EDAX results may be incorrect due to misusage of the suitable detector or the device not being calibrated by at least three elements (Cu, Al, C). Especially in case of, the results don't reflect the existance of the elements used.
Also, if the % not correct. This means the used ETH is not sufficient to excites the electrons of the outermost shell. So, revise the each element profile and the used ETH.
