There are different protocols for DNA and RNA extraction, but can anyone help me in telling the quickest and easiest method for extracting both (DNA and RNA) simultaneously from both gram positive and gram negative bacterial cells.
of course you can use phenol-chloroforme extraction. Is it cheaper than extraction kits? I don´t know. If you consider the time you spend on the extraction using phenol-chloroforme, the money you spend on the single reagents, biosafety concerns and the quality of phenol-cloroforme extraction compared with kits then I think you´re better off with commercial extraction kits. Not to mention standardization. With phenol-chloroform extraction you always have traces of reagents left in your final DNA solution that might cause problems with other applications. In the end, kits are cheaper.
