There is a wide range of antifungal drugs recommended for oral candidiasis, and these are associated with certain problems. Can patients be advised to use folk remedies instead? Are these effective? Are they safe?
During my experience in Internal Medicine unit many years ago I found that a 1-2% aqueous solution of gentian violet (or methil scarlet 10B) was effective for oral candidiasis. We preferred this solution mainly for elderly patients with non particularly severe or extended oral candida infection. The only relative contraindication is that is....scarlet...
Thank you M. Sardina. The problem with oral candidiasis is that it needs topical treatment to be applied for relatively long period like 2-3 weeks. so can we use gentian violet safely for that time?
