I found this green algae in a freshwater pond. which is highly motile moving very fast by rotating its whole body.its looks like it has flagella.sometime feel it might a green alga because i feel the chloroplast has some definite shape. to my small knowledge on algae i could not identify it. since i got only less material i could not take more photographs..only this photos and video,.. i have nothing more.

The photos are fuzzy but it is most certainly a green alga there are not any motile blue green unicellular algae known

I coincide with Grant. You clearly have not a blue-green algae by two reasons, Cianobacteria has not chloroplasts (your specimen shows two chloroplasts in the secon picture) and has not flagellate cells (your specimen has flagella).
More clear pictures would be necessary for determining your material, but your pictures are sufficient for be sure that your materia are not blue-green algae.

since it was highly motile i could not get clear picture. and another thing is like i got this organism in very less number. one or two only. after looking this character i tried many slide but could not get this particular organism.so kindly try to identify the organism using the photo and video given. it will be great pleasure to me...

I understood that you thought your material is a blue-green algae, probably by the topic "blue-green color", I read it as blue-green algae.
In my opinión this flagelate is not a Chlorophyta, it is probably a Cryptophyta of the Order Chroomonadales, which members are often blue-green in color due to cloroplasts containing the Cr-phycocyanin and show the anterior end of the cell obliquely truncate, as the most part of the Cryptophyta. Some genera of the group have a cosmopolitan distribution in both marine and freshwater habitats, every continent.

According to the visual material you sent there are high probabilities that what we see here is the protist cryptomonad Chroomonas sp. With two chloroplasts (bluegreenish color) and subappical flagella. The gender has a wide aquatic environments distribution.

As you all suggested i consider this as Cryptophyte. and can i use the character to find cryptophyte members by looking the anterior end of the cell for obliquely truncate shape?. will it help me to confirm that the strain belongs to cryptophyte, or do i have any other characteristic feature which will help me to identify the group.
And Dear Alma,
Since i am Botanist i have to consider it as a member of Cryptophyte instead of Cryptomonad. there are many protist we call as algae so please don't mind it. and i have one doubt, weather this creature will have only one flagella or two. is there any other typical character which made you to conclude the genera?

I am sending to you a summary of the most important feature of the Cryptophyta according to Van den Hoek (1995).
- Almost all of the Cryptophyceae are unicellular flagellates, although some of them can form sessile, encapsuled (= palmelloid or tetrasporal) stages.
- The cells are dorsiventrally constructed. The dorsal side is convex, while the ventral side is flat, with a shallow longiludinal groove. The anterior end of the cell obliquely truncate.
- On the ventral side at the anterior end of the cell there is a deep gullet, whose wall is lined by numerous prominent trichocysts.
- Each flagellate cell bears two flagella, which differ in length. The longer flagellum bears two rows of mastigonemes while the shorter flagellum bears a single row of shorter mastigonemes. In some species, however, the flagella have a somewhat different structure as in the Heterokontophyta.

for taking photography of the live sample how can i make this alga to sit in a place quietly. for green algae i use sometime 0.8% formalin / Iodine staining. in this case which will be a better option to kill/immobilise the alga on slide.

Very similar to the species of the genus Criptomonas. It is necessary to fix the osmic acid. It will show the flagella.

I think that this is not a species of Rhodomonas, all the species has phycoerythrin, not phycocyanin.

Although the photos are out of focus and important features are not clearly visible, the general shape of the cell looks like one of the representatives of the Phylum Cryptophyta (probably the genus Cryptomonas). Cryptomonas can have different colours depending on the composition of pigments. Most common colours are blue, blue-green (due to the presence of phyocobilin pigments), reddish, olive green, brown or even yellow-brown. Cells are motile by means of two flagella, slightly different in length.
