Where can I find an article or information about etchant used for Zr based Bulk Metallic Glasses (both hypo eutectic and eutectic compositions) to be observed in Scanning Electron Microscopy?
However all these references describe a generic way of doing Etching. No one (except Thesis from ETHZ) describes composition of etchant.
I am involved in bit more deeper problem. I have very small sizes samples (1.5 mm thickness wedge shape). The possibility of formation of glass is maximum at tip of wedge.
HF is known to act more severely on Zr and Ti as compared to Cu. It is already documented. (EMF Series)
If I dip my sample in HF (even light concentration), I ran the risk of loosing the tip altogether (as It is thought it is pure Zr)
Zr-Cu bcc (B2) phase (present in the form of dendrite) starts some what upward towards wider region of wedge.
I am in search of optimum composition, time and method of application of etchant which could reveal Dendritic structure without dissolving all Zr.
