What minimum crack size (surface or sub surface) Magnetic Particle Inspection can measure without loosing its sensitivity?
also, til which depth (in mm) from surface MPI can actually measure a crack / flaw?
What is the mechanism by which it detects sub surface crack? (I mean how can user of MPI know that there is crack underneath the surface when he can not see it with naked eye? (e-g Barely Visible Damage (BVD))
I would also be grateful if someone can provide me with some literature of use of MPI on Magnetic Polymer Composites (Ferrite reinforced Glass Fiber Reinforced Hybrid Composite)

Magnetic particle testing is a unique methods to calculate surface cracks or subsurface cracks. Recent trends in magnetic particle testing have advanced the quality control through NDT.
The resolution of the MPT would depend on the particle size. The finer the particle better the resolution or smaller or thinner crack can be found. Use of nano for MPT have made tremendous advances in the MPT. Nanofluids of ferro type have been used to find minute craks in the material which was not possible earlier.
U may go through various research papers on ferro nanofluids for MPT.

How fast is MPI as compared to other NDT techniques?
What I mean is how would you advocate for the selection of MPI against others techniques specially for Polymer nanocomposite applications? (Composites which by their inherent nature are non magnetic. So, I am making them magnetic and then using MPI - so I am fighting against two claims)
I know the basic idea behind the development of MPI was the exploitation of humongous amount of use of Ferrous Materials in industry so why adopt and waste time and energy on technique which is narrow application specific (e-g ultrasonic, radiography etc.). Why not develop a technique which is cheap, fast, reliable and sensitive for an application which covers more the an 80% share of industry. (That's how MPI evolved. Am I right?)

With recent advancement in the MPT we could find the defect very easily and productively. Only issue is it an detect a small part of subsurface and surface defects only and is used only for ferrous type of materials. I do agree that it is comparatively fast yet it too have some disadvantages compared to other techniques. So it is most important to check what type of defects you are planning to detect. I am not much familiar with the application of MPT on composites (again depends on what type of it it is ? )but i guess there could be a easy way to do it.
