There is a wide collection of bacteriophages in the colon targeting a plethora of bacteria. Pathogens are mostly similar to the bacteria present in the colon, just the former have more virulence genes.

Given these premises, do phages against pathogens already reside in the colon?

For instance, would an invading Yersinia or Salmonella encounter phages against them when invading an intestine?

Is there literature supporting this point?
