If phages (bacterium-eating viruses) prowl on bacteria, are there bacteria (or other micro-organisms) that hunt phages for food? They are rich in proteins anyway... Are there studies on this subject? Thanks
As bacteria don't phagocyte food particles, bacteriphages would have to be degraded extracellularly. At any rate it would take a huge concentration of phages to make a significant contribution to medium nutrients. For example, in the case of bacteriophage lambda, with a total mass of about 6exp7 Da (protein + DNA included), it takes 10exp10 phage particles to get 1 µg of nutrient
Yes there are ,where found in nature ubiquitous harmless to human, animals and plants infect only bacterial cells(specifically target)and kill bacteria while virulent phage followed a lytic cycle. Also found in our food in abundance. They used in food processing plants to get rid from pathogenic bacteria like, listeria, salmonella E.coli Clostridum perifinges...Thanks
Hello ,the the following reference are important: 1_www.science daily.com. 2_ www.forbes.com. 3_ Recent books enviromrntal microbiology and food microbiology.Thanks.
I have found a reference only in forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/helenalbert/2020/06/27/could-bacteria-eating-viruses-help-treat-patients-with-covid-19/?sh=4b2d64481e49
Actually, the title of the article is wrong: it is about bacteriophages, not bacteria-eating viruses. Forbes comments on an article I already read regarding the possible use of phage therapy to reduce COVID symptoms due to the phages' capability to curtailing the immune response.
More references:1_ www.science direct.comb.topics. 2_ www.agriculture.Journals.3_www.Frontiersin.org.Articles,full.4_www.eurekalert.org.pub releases. The most important is the answer agree with the questions .I wrote after absorption the content of multiple references to reach to the aim. Thanks
I mention the reference www.forbes.com to focus in the future therapeutic role of bacteriphage to treat Covid_19.as an example you accept welcome not accept also welcome.just scientific trial.
Phage(informally)_ short for bacteripgage because they eat bacteria are of size and complexicity considered typical of life, carry numerous genes normally found in bacteria and use these genes against their bacterial hosts. The findings provide new insight into constant warfare between phage and bacteria.Reference.www.eurekalert.org.Thanks
Luigi Marongiu Your question is , are there any phage eating bacteria but people answering it totally wrong, in context of your question we did not come across any such bacteria in publications
