I have a list of 1000 genes and I need to see the percentage of C and G in their DNA sequences. I have no sequences, just their IDs. Are there any tools that would calculate C and G percentage of each gene in a list provided?
Also, are there tools that give all the gene sequences that are listed my list?
You could do it based on the gene sequences in fasta file. There are several programs like a open source Unipro Ugene or command line interface. But I am not aware of any usei g a list and output a list.
What is the content of your list by the way?
I suppose the genes belong to a well known annotated organsim. In case of Homosapiens or many model organism, the genes are listed and annotated in detail. In some cases, you may extract them using only the IDs, otherwise, download the fasta files and use countgc from bbmap.
A simple google search indicates this tool: https://www.biologicscorp.com/tools/GCContent/, which is basically a GC content calculator, but that gives you the relative percentages of each base below the GC content graph. Hope that helps and good luck!
