i m working on modeling of delamination region in composite shell,but i don't understand how to create delamination region in cylindrical shell by creating sublaminates within the shell,,,can u help me how i create delamination region in it,,,next i will use Vcct to see the effect of delamination for which u need to have master and slave surface interaction Is it possibe to have have master and slave surface in one part cylindrical shell.

Unfortunatelly I generally work with Ansys software, but the main idea are similar. To create delaminated area, the two surface not connected should be created (the same coordinates but not connected. Another method is to used solshell elements or solid elements. To better uderstand what I try to explain I attached the file, a part of master thesis of one of my student .

You may have to model the 3D geometry of the laminate. It's not possible to introduce the crack between the sub laminates as shell is a planar structure, which doesn't have any geometrical thickness in FEM modeling.
if it's mandatory for you to use solid elements, Abaqus do have solid shell elements. For that you need to model the 3D sublaminates. You can use the same geometry with solid hex or tet elements also.
Please correct if i understood your problem wrongly.

Hi,
As mentioned in the paper, they are using single shell layer for performing buckling analysis with out delamination. For introducing the rectangular delamination, you need two layers of shell elements.
You have to create two concentric planar surfaces to create two shell element layers and follow the directions given in the paper....to define interaction between the two layers, you have to go to interaction module... for more information on defining the constraint between the surfaces, please refer Abaqus documentation.

Cohesive surfaces/elements are the best ways to model delamination. You can also write your subroutine.
